PLEASE NOTE: Hydrogen Fuel Cell Decommissioned April 1, 2010
Easywash is a contributing member of the Integrated Waste Hydrogen Utilization Project (IWHUP).
As a project member Easywash will host a $1.2M stationary hydrogen fuel cell demonstration. This cell will provide 90% of Easywash’s peak energy demands as well as heat and cool our building and produce all the hot water we need to wash cars. The fuel cell was operational effective September 2007.
Easywashis the world's first hydrogen powered carwash!
The objective of IWHUP is to assist in the establishment of a sustainable hydrogen infrastructure in the Vancouver region and to introduce hydrogen as a commercial fuel in the marketplace. The $19 million project will use state-of-the-art technologies to purify waste hydrogen currently vented to atmosphere from ERCO Worldwide’s electrolytic sodium chlorate plant in North Vancouver. The purified hydrogen will be marketed to the power, industrial and emerging alternative fuel transportation sectors.
Until this project, the hydrogen from the ERCO plant was released harmlessly into the atmosphere. IWHUP will capture and clean this hydrogen and then bottle the hydrogen into transport containers for delivery for use in industry.
The quantity of available hydrogen from the ERCO plant has been likened to a hydrogen well; it’s virtually unlimited and has the ability to provide enough hydrogen to supply the entire state of California’s current demand.
